The book of Genesis is an amazing book. It is the first book in our Bible. I want to share some of my favorite stories from Genesis.
I love the story of Adam and Eve. Eve was deceived by the serpent and ate the fruit. She then gave some to Adam, and he ate it too. They realized they had sinned. God came looking for them during their daily walk. Even though God knew where they were, He asked. They then engaged in a blame game. Adam blamed God, Eve blamed Adam, and the serpent had no one to blame.
I love the story of Noah. He preached for a long time, but people mocked him, calling him crazy because they had never seen rain. They essentially lived in a desert. They didn't believe Noah, even though he tried to persuade them. No matter what he tried, they didn't listen. They ignored him until the rain came and flooded everything, even past the trees, and they all perished.
I love the story of Abraham. God promised him that he would have many descendants. The Bible tells us that his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, disliked each other. Isaac had two sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob had 12 sons! One of Jacob's sons was named Judah.
I love the story of Judah because he was a great-great-grandfather of Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for all of us so that we wouldn't have to pay the price for our sins. One story about Jesus that I remember is when he healed ten men with leprosy. They all went back to their families, but only one returned to thank Jesus. He then wondered why only one of the ten he healed came back to express his gratitude.
I love the story of Joseph. His father favored Joseph and gave him a coat of many colors. At that time, such garments were very expensive, so his brothers were jealous. Joseph had dreams and told his brothers about them. In one dream, they were in a field making bundles of grain, and his bundle, which was in the middle, was bowed down to by their bundles. They hated this dream.
I love the story of Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers. The Bible tells us that one day, Joseph's father sent him to check on his brothers and bring them food. When Joseph arrived, his brothers saw him from a distance and plotted to throw him into a pit. They did this, and then went to eat lunch. The oldest brother suggested they not do that, but they ignored him and threw Joseph into the pit. The oldest brother planned to return after lunch and rescue Joseph, but by then, they had already sold him as a slave to some traders.
These stories, and many other great stories, are in the book of Genesis. Please visit a church of Christ in your community. Thank you for reading this blog.
